Coach Tony Camareno
Coach Tony Camareno joins Northland Track Club as our Distance Coach, bringing a lifelong passion for distance running, track and field, and athlete development. Tony’s running journey began at Blue Springs High School, where he competed in cross country and track and field. A multiple-time All-State athlete in both sports, he also earned AAU All-American honors in cross country and ranked among Missouri’s top athletes in his graduating class. He continued competing at the collegiate level at Southwest Missouri State University.
For the past eight years, Tony has coached competitive softball, developing a philosophy centered on helping athletes recognize and reach their potential. He believes athletics is about far more than performance—it is an opportunity to build discipline, confidence, resilience, accountability, and character that carry well beyond competition. Tony’s 20 years of military service have further shaped his leadership approach. He values high standards, leading by example, strong team culture, and embracing the process when the work gets difficult. He believes distance running is uniquely suited to teaching consistency, patience, perseverance, and mental toughness.
Above all, Tony is a husband and father. He and his wife, LaToi-ya, have been married for 18 years and are raising three children: Branden, Knyla’lee, and Alaiyah. Branden is serving in the Navy, while Knyla’lee and Alaiyah are excited to become part of the running program themselves. Tony is excited to give back to the sport that has given him so much. His goal is to develop not only stronger runners, but confident, resilient young people who understand the value of hard work, believe in their potential, and are prepared to succeed long after their time on the track.
